Discovering Namibia is a rewarding experience. Venture into a world of changing scenery, contrasting unspoilt wilderness and interesting cultures with the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Windhoek and Swakopmund. We explore Namibia's attractions using a diverse itinerary, including the northern area with the famous Etosha National Park and the Himba tribe as well as the central area with Damaraland, the Brandberg, the Namib Desert (Sesriem and Naukluft) and other regions not normally visited by ordinary tourists.
DAY 1 - WINDHOEK
Windhoek, with its lingering heritage of German architecture, activities and atmosphere is a city which can be visited throughout the year. The day is spent at leisure. Hotel Safari or guesthouse accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis. Dinner and lunch are not included. (Hotel with bed & breakfast)
DAY 2/3 - ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
This park is one of the most important reserves and game sanctuaries in Africa. The pan itself is a vast shallow depression 139km by 50km. Thousands of wild animals such as blue wildebeest, springbok, zebra, kudu, giraffe, cheetah, leopard, lion, elephant, etc. are attracted to the area. The birdlife is prolific with 326 recorded species. We relax around the swimming pool and enjoy early morning and afternoon game drives. (Camping full board)
DAY 4 - KAOKOLAND - HOBATERE
We travel through the western side of Etosha. (Camping full board)
DAY 5 - KAOKOLAND - OPUWO AREA
We travel further into Kaokoland where the Ovahimba, a semi-nomadic tribe, live in scattered settlements throughout the region. They are characterised by their proud yet friendly stature and the women are noted for their unusual beauty, enhanced by intricate hairstyles and traditional dress. They rub their bodies with red ochre and fat to protect their skins against the desert climate. (Camping full board)
DAY 6/7 - KAOKOLAND - EPUPA FALLS
The Epupa Falls are a series of cascades where the Kunene River drops 60m in 1,5km forming a multitude of channels and rock pools. A variety of birds occur in the area. We visit a Himba village to familiarise ourselves with their way of life. (Camping full board)
DAY 8 - WARMQUELLE
Damaraland is a vast and rugged terrain. Its mountain ranges are intercepted by wide gravel plains which run into sandy, vegetated riverbeds and hot, dry valleys. We enjoy the solitude and the remoteness of our secluded bush camp. (Camping full board)
DAY 9 - TWYFELFONTEIN ROCK ENGRAVINGS
Our journey takes us deeper into Damaraland where we may be fortunate enough to see the rare desert elephant or the elusive black rhino. We visit Twyfelfontein ("Fountain of Doubt") possibly the most spectacular collection of rock paintings and engravings in Africa. (Camping full board)
DAY 10 - BRANDBERG
The Brandberg is famous for its rock paintings. We set out on foot to find the painting called the White Lady of the Brandberg. It is set in a wild and beautiful ravine amongst a jumble of rocks. Of 8000 documented paintings, the White Lady is the most famous. We camp at the foot of the Brandberg. (Camping full board)
DAY 11 - SEAL COLONY - CAPE CROSS - SWAKOPMUND
The large colony of Cape fur seals (about 50.000) at Cape Cross is a very impressive sight. Swakopmund, with its German colonial atmosphere is surrounded by the Namib Desert and has many buildings and houses dating back to the German colonial era. Excludes dinner and lunch. DAY 12 - THE RARE WELWITSCHIAS - MOON VALLEY - NAMIB DESERT (GANAB/BLOEDKOPPIE)
The Welwitschia is an unusual pre-historic plant, which is a dwarf tree flourishing on the moisture of the Atlantic Coast. Its lifespan is estimated at more than 1.000 years. Our camp in the desert under the bright stars of the Southern Hemisphere will create a lasting impression. (Camping full board)
DAY 13/14 - NAMIB DESERT - SESRIEM
Our journey takes us through the Namib Desert, the oldest desert on earth. The gigantic 275m high red and grey dunes are the highest in the world. Most of the 200 species plants that occur here depend on the mist from the Atlantic for survival. (Camping full board)
DAY 15 - WINDHOEK
We arrive in Windhoek in the early afternoon +-14h00. End of tour.
